傅伯杰，男，1958年1月4日出生于陕西咸阳，自然地理学家、景观生态学家，中国科学院院士，第三世界科学院院士，英国爱丁堡皇家学会外籍院士，中国科学院生态环境研究中心研究员、博士生导师、学术委员会主任，欧洲地球科学联合会“EGU洪堡奖章”得主。
1982年，从陕西师范大学地理系毕业，获得学士学位。
1984年，从陕西师范大学地理系毕业，获得硕士学位。
1986年，在陕西师范大学地理系任讲师。
1989年，获得北京大学地理系和英国斯特林大学（University of Stirling）环移动图片境科学系联合培养博士学位，之后进入中国科学院生态环境研究中心工作，先后担任助理研究员（1989年—1990年）、副研究员（1990年—1993年）、研究员（1994年9月晋升）。
1993年02月—1994年08月，在比利时鲁汶大学（Catholic University of Leuven）土地和水管理研究所从事博士后研究。
1996年—2001年，担任中国科学院生态环境研究中心副主任。
1997年，获得国家杰出青年科学基金资助。
1999年，入选国家百千万人才工程一二层次。
2001年02月—2008年11月，担任中国科学院资源环境科学与技术局局长。
2003年，获得国家基金委创新研究群体资助。
2011年12月，当选为中国科学院院士。
2013年08月，应邀在第11届国际生态学大会作了题为《变化景观下的生态系统服务》的报告，这是中国学者首次在国际生态学大会上作大会报告。
2016年11月，担任北京师范大学地理科学学部部长、教授。
2018年08月，当选为国际地理联合会副主席。
2019年，当选为美国人文与科学院外籍院士；10月22日，获得欧洲地球科学联合会2020年度EGU“洪堡奖章”；10月，担任北京师范大学生态文明研究院院长。
傅伯杰在土地利用结构与生态过程、景观生态和生态系统服务等方面取得了系统性创新成果。特别是在耦合景观格局与水土生态过程、区域生态系统服务优化方法上取得了重要突破，推动了中国景观生态学的发展。
傅伯杰开创性的将格局-过程-尺度有机结合，揭示了黄土丘陵沟壑区不同尺度土地利用格局对土壤水分、养分和土壤侵蚀的影响机理，建立了坡地土壤水分空间分布模型，比较分析了不同土地利用结构的水土保持效应，为水土流失治理和植被恢复提供了科学依据。提出了景观多样性的概念和类型，发展了农业景观可持续性评价指数和模型，推动了中国景观生态学的发展。主持完成了中国生态区划并得到广泛应用。
截至2019年10月，傅伯杰已发表学术论文500余篇，其中SCI收录论文260余篇，SCI引用7000余次，入选高引用作者，中国国内引用43000余次（CNKI），出版著作10余部。

2016年5月18日，傅伯杰长安大学本部东院地学大厦第一学术报告厅举行的科技创新交流暨“虹”学讲堂第十四讲，作了《地理学：从知识、科学到决策》的学术报告。
2018年10月8日，傅伯杰应邀做客中国科学院亚热带农业生态研究所，为师生作了题为《生物多样性与生态系统服务评价指标体系与方法》的专题报告。
2019年1月9日，傅伯杰应邀到中南林业科技大学作了题为《生物多样性与生态系统服务评估指标体系与方法》的学术报告。
2019年10月18日，傅伯杰应邀做客西北大学“杨钟健学术讲座”第一百六十讲，为师生作了题为《地理学综合研究——我的科研故事》的专题报告。
2014年，傅伯杰获得中国科学院优秀导师奖。
从治理黄土高原水土流失到景观生态学研究，再到牵头全球干旱生态系统国际大科学计划，傅伯杰把中国的景观生态学研究推进到国际前沿水平。（《科技日报》评）
傅伯杰向中办国办提出了多项生态保护与恢复的政策建议并得到采纳，为中国生态文明建设做出了重要贡献。（中国生态学学会评）
